Indian Car Sales - March 2012

Indian car market seems to be back on track in March 2012, delivering better figures 2nd month in a row. Driven by festival season (Navratra), news of impeding excise duty, and increased discounts on new cars across car manufacturers. It seems that India consumption story is still strong and Indian car buyers are intelligent enough to see a good deal going. Add to this car manufacturers desire to gun for higher numbers either by pumping in larger numbers of fast moving cars (cars in demand) and increasing discounts on cars requiring some support.

Indian car market leader Maruti seems to be taking its lost sales (due to strikes in 2011) very seriously. Having realised this, it has taken the most sensible way forward by increasing the supplies of two of its fastest moving models - The Swift and Swift Dzire since Feb 2012. Maruti also ensured a supply skew in favour of diesel variants of these models. From a 25% contribution of these car models to its total kitty, they today account for of 35% of Maruti’s total kitty. A very intelligent move one must say.

Fortuner Vs Endeavour full blown SUV Competing for Buyers Wallet. Real SUV for SUV lovers from Toyota and Ford. Endeavour and Fortuner comes in 4*2 and 4*4 drive train. Fortunately both have the muscle, looks and power under their hoods to take any terrain with ease. Whilst, on paper feature to feature and engine comparison seems to be tilting the balance in favour of the Endeavour, however, Toyota has enough fan following who will willingly ignore any marquee for a Toyota at any price. Lucky Toyota.
