Hyundai Elite I20 Vs Rivals Spec Comparison

With the advent of new Elite i20, the already fierce competition in hatchback category has further intensified. Hyundai has replaced the older i20 with brand new Elite i20 that comes with significant improvements over its predecessor. Not only this new i20 looks more upmarket it also comes well-prepared on important aspects of interior room and road-manners. Contesting squarely against the likes of Maruti Swift, VW Polo and Fiat Punto Evo; Elite i20 has sounded the bugle of the war. We compare this new contender against its rivals on this spec-comparison to find where does this new Hyundai stands against its competitors?
Cabin Space: Space is increasingly becoming one of the prime considerations in today’s cay buying decisions and Hyundai has understood it quite well. That’s why new Elite i20 comes with a generous 2570 mm of wheelbase that is good 45 mm longer than outgoing i20. In fact not only over its predecessor the new Elite i20 with its 2570 mm wheelbase is miles ahead of the competition. The Fiat Punto with 2510 mm is the distant second while 2469 mm of Polo makes it 3rd in this comparison. Maruti Swift comes last with its shortest 2430 mm distance between wheels. Further on another crucial aspect of width, Elite i20 dwarfs the competitors with its 1734 mm wide footprints with VW hitting the last spot with 1682 mm. Maruti Swift and Punto Evo takes the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively though in case of height Maruti Swift claims the top-spot as it stands 1530 mm tall followed by Punto Evo, Elite i20 and VW Polo.

Engine Capacity: Elite i20 comes with one petrol and one diesel engine and the same is true for Maruti-Suzuki Swift. However in case of Fiat Punto Evo and VW Polo there are more than one options available in case of power plants. Now in order to be fair in this comparison test, we will stack up the similar capacity power plants against one other. Hyundai Elite features 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine that makes 82 PS/115 Nm and 90 PS/220 Nm of power and torque respectively. In comparison Maruti Swift comes with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines that are good for 86 PS /114 Nm and 75 PS/190 Nm of power and torque. Fiat Punto with its 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel makes 68 PS/96 Nm and 76 PS/197 Nm of max power and torque while in VW Polo these figures are rated at 75 PS/ 110 Nm and 90 PS/230 Nm for 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel respectively

On petrol front it is only Maruti Swift that is marginally ahead of Elite i20 on power front though torque generation of these vehicles is on par with each other. Then comes the Polo that even with 3-cylinder configuration produces more power than 4-cylinder arrangement of Fiat. Fiat with its least power output stacks at the bottom of list. Diesel story is also not much different as Elite i20 continuous to dominate the rivals with its class leading 90 PS power. Only VW is able to match this figure courtesy of new 1.5-litre diesel engine that has recently got placed under hood of new facelift version of Polo. On torque generation German humbles the new Korean offering by 10 Nm though that won’t make much difference in reality. Fiat and Maruti find themselves at third and fourth spot with lesser power and torque output.

Lucky Toyota.
