APRIL 2012 CAR SALES ALL RED Vs March 2912

Who could have predicted it? Not even the most closely involved car follower in India would have predicted such huge drops in April 2012 following a Euphoric March. Indian car market is soaked in blood and we at www.ecardlr.com believe that this is just the starting. Honda falls to 8th position with Skoda dropping to 11th position in the Indian car market. The figures below speak for themselves.

What went wrong?

1)      Preponement of sales to March 2012, thanks to car manufacturer offering the benefit of pre-excise duty hike prices till almost end March 2012.

2)      Even though April was big on marriages – most cars to be given as gift was bought or booked in March.

3)      A stock market which refused to move up thus adding to the overall gloomy sentiment

4)      Drop in schemes and hike in prices was like a double whammy

5)      Expected interest drop did not happen even though RBI cut CRR by decent percentage points

6)      Diesel’s were still the flavour of the month, a fact proven by over 80% of Ertiga booked being with diesel power plant and Hyundai’s better supply of Verna and i20 led to an almost 51% increase in Verna’s sales and a 21% growth in i20 sales in April 2012 vs March 2012.

7)      Bottom end of the car market really bottomed out with Alto sales Dropping almost 50%, Nano lost 23% and Eon 32% In April over their March figures

 What to expect in future?

1)      May to July are normally weak months thanks to summer season and holidays – expect the same or maybe more this time

2)      No auspicious dates for marriages till July end at least

3)      No big festivals round the corner

4)      Most new car launches are between July to Sept to catch the festival season

5)      Imminent fuel price hike to compound matters further

Fortuner Vs Endeavour full blown SUV Competing for Buyers Wallet. Real SUV for SUV lovers from Toyota and Ford. Endeavour and Fortuner comes in 4*2 and 4*4 drive train. Fortunately both have the muscle, looks and power under their hoods to take any terrain with ease. Whilst, on paper feature to feature and engine comparison seems to be tilting the balance in favour of the Endeavour, however, Toyota has enough fan following who will willingly ignore any marquee for a Toyota at any price. Lucky Toyota.
