Toyota Yaris mid-size sedan: Which variant to buy

Toyota Motors has recently launched its midsize Yaris Sedan in India at a starting price of Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car is available in 4 different variants and unlike the competition, Toyota hasn't offered the diesel engine as Yaris comes only with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol motor. However, all the four variants are available in both manual and automatic transmission options. Now if like many others you are also confused which variant to pick, read on to get all the answers here.

Base J variant (Rs 8.75 lakh MT / Rs 9.95 lakh CVT)

Despite being the base variant, the Toyota Yaris J can triumph many other offerings on the value for money, especially in the safety department. In a pleasant surprise, Toyota has equipped Yaris range with 7 safety airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, power windows, cooled glove box, manual AC, electrically adjustable outside rear view Mirrors, keyless entry, and rear armrest. For the people tight on the budget but still want to own a Toyota badge, the base J variant makes the sense. You may lose out on some of the features like real roof-mounted air conditioning vents and steering mounted audio controls but then you get a mid-size sedan which is rock solid reliable and promises hassle-free ownership.

G variant (Rs 10.56 lakh MT/ Rs 11.76 lakh CVT)

If you are able to stretch your budget, then the G variant is the optimally loaded variant of Toyota Yaris. We recommend you to buy the G variant as it offers a host of extra features which are desirable in any luxury sedan. Fully automatic climate control, roof mounted AC vents at the back, acoustic and vibration cutting glass, push button start stop system, steering mounted controls, smart entry, 7" touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, rear parking sensors, front and rear fog lamps, speed sensing auto door lock, rear washer and wiper are the additional features that make the G variant our choice. Yes, we admit it will cost you Rs 1.75 lakh more than the base variant but then you are getting a lot of equipment and extra features for this money.

V variant (Rs 11.70 lakh MT/ Rs 12.90 lakh CVT)

The additional features on the V variant Toyota Yaris are focused on the safety and security aspect which many of the buyers do not deem necessary. Toyota has provided all disc brakes, 15-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps, cruise control, and rain-sensing wipers in this V variant which is almost Rs 1 lakh dearer to the G trim level.

VX variant (Rs 12.85 lakh MT/ Rs 14.07 lakh CVT)

The top of the line VX variant is for the ones who do not have any money constraints and want to have all that the Toyota has thrown into the Yaris. The variant gets the paddle shifters (in CVT), rear sunshade, leather upholstery, powered driver seat, LED DRLs, hill-start assist, and tire pressure monitoring system. The focus of the variant is on the safety and in a true sense; this Toyota Yaris VX variant epitomizes the company's focus on the safety aspect.
